How Do I Use It?
This schedule is used to guide the user on the minimum length of time before a record can be destroyed and applies to all copies of the record, regardless of storage format (paper, electronic, microfilms, etc). Keep in mind retention beyond this schedule can increase risk/liability to the County, potential additional storage costs, and potential additional staff time to respond to data requests.
Unless otherwise specified in this retention schedule, duplicate copies may be destroyed at the discretion of the duplicate copy custodian provided they have no further administrative or other value. Duplicate copies should not be retained longer than the official record.
No record that is eligible for destruction under the retention schedule can be destroyed if it is pertinent to any anticipated, current or pending litigation, claim or audit or the subject of a legal hold, or is responsive to a pending data request.
All items on this schedule will need either: (1) an electronic destruction log created by the repository system; or (2) a Records Destruction Form completed prior to destruction. The electronic destruction log and the Records Destruction Form must be kept permanently.
If a record is NOT on this schedule and that record is no longer being created, Minnesota Historical Society, State Archives Department’s Form PR-1 could be used. Please coordinate Form PR-1 with the Wright County Records Manager. If that record will be created in the future, please see “What Do I Do If My Item is Not Listed and/or Incorrect?” below.
